Due to its hearty, nutty flavor and its high levels of mono- and polyunsaturated fats, sesame oil has become one of the most popular oils for sautéing and stir frying due to its low smoke point. It should not be used for deep frying.

In Ayurveda, sesame oil is valued for its medicinal properties. It is said to be good for the skin and hair, and often used for massages as it penetrates deep into the skin to provide nourishment and helps relieve stress.
