How to Check Purity of Turmeric Powder?
Since turmeric powder is a very common spice, it can be easily adulterated. The following are a few simple tests that you could conduct at home to check the authenticity and purity of turmeric powder.
1. Take a glass of warm water, add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to it. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
If the turmeric powder settles down, it is real; if it floats on the surface, it is adulterated.
2. Take a pinch of turmeric powder on your palm and massage it with your thumb for 15-20 seconds. Pure turmeric powder will adhere to your palm, creating a strong yellow stain. However, when you turn your palm upside down, if a large amount of turmeric powder falls, then you know that it has been adulterated.
All these proven health benefits and uses of turmeric, among many others, clearly prove that our elders definitely do not exaggerate about the power of turmeric. All that Haldi Doodh that your mothers/grandmothers made you drink, really does have its benefits.
